Just in time for the New Year, Mets 101's Seven in Seven series returns as our gift to you. Each week, the Mets 101 staff will begin a countdown of topics related to the New York Mets (i.e. best third baseman, worst defeat, etc.). We will begin our countdowns with number seven and work all the way to number one. This week's Seven in Seven list counts down the seven biggest Met killers to plague our beloved franchise. Today we look at number five on our list: the Yankee Captain himself, Derek Jeter.

5. Derek Jeter

Stat Line Against the New York Mets: 84 Games, .368 batting average, 13 homers, 66 runs, 43 RBI.

For many suffering Met fans, few opponents have driven them nuts over the past fifteen years as the squeaky clean captain of the New York Yankees, Derek Jeter. Even though Jeter and his crosstown rivals only play the Mets six times a season, but he has consistently been a thorn in the side of the Amazins. His 13 homers against the Mets is tied for eighth most against any opponent and more than any other National League opponent, despite the fact the Jeter has nearly twice as many career games against a majority of American League teams. His .368 regular season batting average is 30 points higher than against any other opponent who Jeter has faced in at least 75 games.

Jeter was also at his best during the 2000 World "Subway" Series, killing the Mets on baseball's biggest stage, hitting safely in each game, accumulating a .409 batting average with two solo homers and six runs scored in the five game series. Jeter led off game four with a home run on the first pitch of the game and was named series MVP. That performance alone helped spoil the Mets only World Series appearance since 1986 and only added to Jeter's ongoing reputation as a Met killer.
