Baseball's non tender deadline came last night, and the Mets decided not to tender a contract to catcher Ronny Paulino or outfielder Mike Baxter, Matt Cerrone of MetsBlog.com reports. Paulino, who wasn't popular with the organization, was expected to be released and for the moment bumps Mike Nickeas into the backup catcher position. Baxter's release was most likely part of a numbers game so that the team had room to add relievers Frank Francisco and Jon Rauch to the 40 man roster, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see him sign a new minor league deal with the team. In other non-tender news, the team tendered contracts to starter Mike Pelfrey, relievers Ramon Ramirez and Manny Acosta, and outfielder Andres Torres.
